Your chickens should have comfortable housing just as all the other animals that are in your homes. Well there is no skill that is needed of you if you want to come up with a chicken coop. When thinking on how to build a chicken coop follow the following instructions. Start with planning. The first step is to erect the coop at a high spot. The reason behind this is to make sure that the coop and the yard are in a state that they cannot accumulate water during rainy seasons. The second thing when planning is determining how big the coop has to be. There are different sizes for the different chickens that are raised. If you plan to raise chickens and birds for meat, then it needs 1.5-2 square feet per bird on the inside of the coop.
There is a space of 8-10 square feet that is needed per bird in the yard area. The next plan is the sketch and the design. This should always be done on a paper. The only thing that you need to be cautious about when coming up with the sketch and the design is making sure that the door you have is big enough for entering the coop when you want to collect or clean it. You should also put windows for ventilation.
There are things that it is not a must for you to buy, as you can improvise with the available materials around and use them to come up with the coop. If there are other materials that you find you don’t have, it is of great importance that you purchase them from the nearest stores.
When thinking on how to build a chicken coop and you have already planned, and then it is time to start building. Make sure that all the windows are covered well to prevent them from coming outside. Place a latch on the door so that securing can be easy. Nest boxes and perches should be installed along the walls of the coop. The entire yard should be fenced and must be six feet high. It should also be covered with netting to prevent hawks from preying on the chickens. Finally feeders and waterers should be hung in the yard for them to feed and drink.
